Traditional cameras integrate light over the dimensions, such as directions, colors, temporal variations, by converting photons into electrons. The process preserves a subset of two dimensional, or some three dimensional, time varying information, while loses a huge amount of information in other plenoptic dimensions. In this talk, starting from the history of light field theory, an introduction of plenoptic function, which is a ray-based model for light including the color spectrum as well as spatial, temporal and directional variation, will be provided. An overview of light field acquisition, especially the handheld plenoptic acquisition, will be given together with the comparison with the conventional acquisition approaches to demonstrate its advantages. Then, the handheld light field processing techniques developed by us will be introduced to reconstruct light field efficiently. |
